Offering Seva—Selfless Service


At Gurudev Siddha Peeth, Gurukula students and visiting sevites offer seva to support the ashram in fulfilling its purpose as a Gurukula and retreat site.

Many Siddha Yogis dedicate 6 months or more of their time to offer seva as Gurukula Students. Others offer seva as visiting sevites for shorter periods of time, based on available seva projects. In these ways, Siddha Yogis contribute their skills and expertise to support the ashram’s purpose. There are seva positions available for both Gurukula students and visiting sevites.
  • Serve as a Gurukula Student (six months or more)
  • Serve as a Visiting Sevite (one week to six months)
Gurukula Student Requirements
(six months or more)

In addition to the skills and experience required for a specific seva position in Gurudev Siddha Peeth, all candidates for Gurukula student positions must meet the following qualifications:

Siddha Yoga Studentship Requirements (All Seva Positions)
  • Has taken at least one Siddha Yoga Shaktipat Intensive and has been doing at least one of the core Siddha Yoga practices (meditation, chanting, seva, dakshina) on a regular basis for a minimum of two years.
  • Has participated in seva at a Siddha Yoga ashram, meditation centre, chanting and meditation center, or has offered home seva for at least one year within the past five years.
  • Understands seva as a spiritual practice.
  • Is able to offer full-time seva.
  • Demonstrates understanding of, alignment with, and commitment to the philosophy and culture of the Siddha Yoga path, including the spiritual practices.
Skill Requirements (All Staff Seva Positions)
  • Demonstrates fluency in written and spoken English and/or Hindi; able to give and understand clear instructions and to share experiences with clarity.
  • Demonstrates workflow management skills: is able to manage priorities to meet timelines.
  • Has basic and practical computer skills.
  • Demonstrates effective communication and listening skills.
  • Is able to give and receive clear, constructive feedback.
  • Works productively both independently as well as with a team.
Serve as a Visiting Sevite

Throughout the year there are seva opportunities at Gurudev Siddha Peeth for visiting sevites who are available to serve from one week to six months.

There are a range of visiting sevite positions, including administration, gardening, food services, cleaning, Information Technology, web production, and project management.

Visiting Sevites Requirements

In addition to the skills and experience required for each seva position, visiting sevites in Gurudev Siddha Peeth must fulfil the following qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Fluency in English and/or Hindi—the ability to understand and give seva instructions (written and verbal) and to share your sadhana experience in study groups, both small and large
  • Physical ability to offer full-time seva—6 hours a day
Visiting sevites must also have prior sadhana experience, including:

  • a Siddha Yoga practice of at least one year's duration
  • participation in at least one Siddha Yoga Shaktipat Intensive
  • participation in seva (in the past or currently) at a Siddha Yoga ashram, meditation centre, chanting and meditation center or by offering home seva for Gurudev Siddha Peeth or the Siddha Yoga Sangham of India
  • an ability to demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the Siddha Yoga practices, particularly the practice of seva
  • an ability to demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to Siddha Yoga philosophy and culture
  • a strong interest in contributing to the work of Gurudev Siddha Peeth and/or SYSI
  • a stance of studentship and a commitment to ongoing self-improvement, learning, and personal growth.
Visting Sevites Requirements For Children and Families

Families with children ages 5-9 years(running) can now apply for stay in Gurudev Siddha Peeth. For all children ages 5-17 years the minimum period of stay is seven days.

    1. Children ages 5 to 9 (running)
       a. May apply to stay in GSP outside retreat times
       b. Must be accompanied by both parents throughout the duration of their stay    

    2. Children ages 10 to 17 years (running)
       a. May apply to stay in GSP at any time (including retreat times)
       b. Must be accompanied by at least one parent or a guardian throughout the duration of their stay
       c. Parents accompanying children need to meet the requirements mentioned under Visiting Sevites
